Greta Thunberg Controversies

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish climate activist who has been very well known for speaking out against many governments and businesses for their role in global warming.  She has organized and been a part of many protests in the past. Many of these protests have ended peacefully with little problems from the police or the government. However, a week ago on October 18th, Greta was arrested by the British police during a protest outside of an oil and gas conference in London.  She was part of a group of 14 other protesters who were arrested for violating the rules of a peaceful protest. She was taken to a police station, where she was later released on bail. Greta is going to have her trial on November 15th, which will decide whether she serves further punishment or not.

A few days after being released, Greta Thunberg made comments on the current Israel-Gaza war. She said that she stood with Gaza and that Israel was causing a humanitarian, and climate crisis by attacking Gaza. Israel responded angrily on X the social media platform by saying “ Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets which have butchered innocent Israelis. The victims of the Hamas massacre could have been your friends. Speak up.” They have stopped supporting Greta Thunberg’s climate advocacy campaign, where before they were very supportive of stopping climate change and reducing carbon emissions. They have also stopped talking about Greta’s actions overall, and have lost pretty much all respect for her. So far, this is all the recent controversy towards Greta Thunberg.
