College of the Florida Keys is a public community college located in Key West, Florida. It is adjacent to the only living coral reef in North America. This college is known for being on an island and having a major in diving. In the 90’s, many developments were made to the campus. One major development made was a scuba diving complex to help students really get the full experience. Next to the scuba diving complex, a learning environment for Marine Engineering was built and a Seamanship program was offered. Other majors to choose from are liberal arts/studies, registered nursing, wildlife, business administration, diesel mechanics, culinary, and more. In-state yearly tuition is about $3,280 and out-of-state yearly tuition is about $13,160. The GPA required is at least a 3.0.
The school mascot is the “Tugas” which is an abbreviation of “tortuga”, the Spanish word for turtle. The turtle symbolizes the school’s passion towards the ocean and marine life. The only athletics provided at CFK is a swim team.
