Pakistan has admitted to carrying out “intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations” after the Taliban have accused it of killing eight women and children. No exact details were provided in the official statement. However, the statement did say that the airstrikes were in response to a militant attack that left seven Pakistani soldiers dead.
The Taliban denied that they had any link to the militants. It added that the “reckless” strikes had hit civilian homes.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, warned Pakistan not to “blame Afghanistan for the lack of control and problems in its own territory. Such incidents can have very bad consequences which will not be in Pakistan’s control.”
Tensions have been rising between Afghanistan and Pakistan ever since the Taliban retook control of the country in 2021.
Pakistan says that it has been dealing with an increasing number of militant attacks.
