On March 20, 2024, Leo Varadkar, the prime minister of Ireland resigned, he has served as the Irish taoiseach since December 2022, and previously from 2017 to 2020. He has stated that he was not fit for the position, he is currently aged 38, being the youngest person to hold the position in office. Varadkar stated that he feels that he is not the “best person for the job anymore”, also stating that he will step down as taoiseach as soon as a new leader is elected. Many people were surprised at the resignation and many were disappointed, no one expected Varadkar to resign this early in his rule.
