On Monday, April 15, 2024, at least four churchgoers at the “Christ The Good Shepherd Church,” were stabbed by a 16-year-old boy. One of the victims was a 53-year-old bishop, luckily, none of the victims’ injuries were fatal, but this incident has been labeled as a religious terrorist attack. The attack triggered countless people to protest outside of the church, the police and protesters began fighting and 2 officers were injured.
The bishop had to undergo surgery but he is expected to make a full recovery. Mr. Emmanuel, the bishop, said that he would like people to “respect his privacy and the safety of others”. Bishop Emmanuel is a prominent leader in the community, and is one of the “kindest and most genuine human beings”, local officials say. The attacker who was 16 at the time was taken in for questioning. After the questioning, he was arrested and brought to a holding cell to await his trial.
