US Floating Pier for Aid Anchored to Gaza Coast

The floating pier that will transport humanitarian aid has finally been connected to Gaza.

Trucks carrying this aid will be expected to begin transporting it in “the coming days”. A USAID response director stated that the construction of the pier, a system known as JLOTS (Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore), was completed recently. Hundreds of tons of aid have arrived in Cyprus, where it will be taken to the pier later. Details about this pier have been written in a previous article.

UN officials are still doubtful about how the JLOTS system will work and if it will bring what Gaza requires, though they stated that there was much coordination between the US over the system. Some have said that it is a high-tech distraction from what is needed in Gaza, which is properly functioning aid crossings and a safe distribution system. However, US officials stated that JLOTS was only meant to help existing efforts to bring aid into Gaza, not replace them.
